CEREC 3D

Imagine visiting Dr. Yolanda Cruz Dentistry in Toronto, and leaving the same appointment with a custom restoration in place! This is possible due to CEREC 3D (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics). Even more, this advanced dental procedure allows Dr. Cruz to restore damaged teeth in a single appointment.  CEREC 3D uses a high-quality, durable ceramic material that matches your natural tooth color.

The Science of CEREC

CEREC 3D uses CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing) technology, incorporating a camera, a computer, and milling machine in one instrument. First, Dr. Cruz will prepare your damaged tooth by applying a thin layer of reflective powder directly on the tooth’s surface. Next, with a special camera, Dr. Cruz will take an optical impression of the damaged tooth.  Finally, Dr. Cruz will transfer the optical impression to the computer and display it on a color screen.

The CEREC Process

First, Dr. Yolanda Cruz will use CAD technology to design the restoration. Next, the CAM will automatically create the restoration. The CAM uses a high-speed diamond bur and a disk to mill the restoration out of a solid block of ceramic material. Lastly, Dr. Cruz bonds the restoration in place. Above all, the whole CEREC process only takes approximately one hour.
