As we age, the lips naturally lose collagen. They can become thinner, lose some of their definition along the border, and develop fine vertical lines. Lip fillers are one way to address this, but not everyone wants injectable material placed in their lips.
LipLase takes a different approach. Instead of adding volume from the outside, it uses gentle, controlled laser heat to stimulate the lip tissue to remodel its existing collagen and produce new collagen. The result is a gradual, natural-looking improvement in fullness, hydration and definition that is still entirely your own tissue.
The treatment is non-ablative, which means the surface of the lip is not cut or removed. There are no incisions, and most patients go straight back to their day afterwards.
LipLase uses Fotona’s 2940 nm Er:YAG laser in a special non-ablative setting called SMOOTH® mode. Rather than a single pulse, SMOOTH mode delivers a rapid series of low-energy pulses that warm the tissue in a controlled way without damaging the surface.
That warmth does two things. In the short term, it tightens existing collagen fibres. Over the following weeks, it signals the lip tissue to produce new collagen, which is what gives LipLase its lasting, natural-looking effect.
The treatment is performed in two parts: the laser is first applied to the inside of the lips, then to the outer lip and the lip border. Treating both surfaces lets the lips look fuller while also improving definition and softening fine lines around the mouth.
LipLase is designed for patients who want their lips to look healthier and a little fuller, without looking “done.” Here is what sets it apart.
Nothing is injected into the lips. The change comes from new collagen your own tissue produces, so the lips keep their natural feel and movement.

LipLase is done as a short series of sessions rather than a single visit. Most treatment plans involve around three to four sessions spaced a few weeks apart, and Dr. Cruz will recommend the number and spacing that suits your lips and your goals.
Because the effect depends on new collagen, results build gradually. New collagen typically begins forming in the three to four weeks after a session and continues to develop over the following months, so your lips keep improving after your last appointment.
Published reports on LipLase commonly describe results lasting around six to eight months. Your lips will continue to age naturally, so many patients choose periodic maintenance sessions to keep their results. Individual results vary.
LipLase and dermal fillers aim for a similar goal but work in very different ways. Neither is right for everyone, and Dr. Cruz is happy to talk through which approach fits what you are hoping for.

LipLase is a non-surgical lip enhancement treatment that uses the Fotona Er:YAG laser in SMOOTH mode to gently warm the lip tissue. This stimulates collagen remodelling and new collagen production, giving the lips a fuller, more defined and smoother appearance without fillers or injections.

Most patients describe a feeling of gentle warmth during the treatment. A topical numbing cream can be applied beforehand if you would like extra comfort, and protective eyewear is worn throughout the session.
